Most dogs that hunt in the Chesapeake Bay enjoy swimming and diving, but Beya the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is an exception. Instead, she does something that’s really amusing!
Jana Underwood, owner of the Happy Tails resort in Norfolk, Virginia, says that it’s not that Beya doesn’t know how to swim, but rather that she has realized that she doesn’t need to. Beya visits the pool a few times a week. She quickly realized that she doesn’t have to row a boat like the other dogs.
Jana says, “She’ll just stand there and not move until you throw her a ball. She’s just decided she won’t go.” Beya is also sharing her secret of not knowing how to swim with the other dogs. Jana says, “And it’s taught two other dogs how to do it.”
