Just as the world marveled at the unlikely friendship between a little dog and a goldfish, a new and incredibly strong friendship between a dolphin and a golden retriever named Ben has left us all in awe.
Guggie, the dolphin, could have roamed freely in the vast ocean, but she chose to call Tory Island in the Atlantic Ocean her home, forever tethered to this place due to the memory of her mate dolphin’s passing along the Donegal coast. But then, a glimmer of hope entered Guggie’s life in the form of Ben. Ben, a champion swimmer, quickly struck up a friendship with Guggie, and they became inseparable. Every single day, without fail, Ben would swim out to the sea to play with Guggie, and they’d frolic and swim for hours on end.
One on land and the other in the water, but despite the years that have passed, the bond between Guggie the dolphin and Ben the dog remains unbreakable, earning the admiration of all who witness their remarkable friendship.
“Sometimes, a group of dolphins comes, and Guggie goes with them. At those times, I thought he would quickly forget the island and return to the wild, but I was wrong,” shares Pat Doohan, Ben’s owner.
