For three days, this unfortunate dog lay in the middle of the road, and astonishingly, nobody stepped forward to help. The absence of humanity’s kindness and compassion raises the question: where have all the good-hearted people gone? Is it conceivable that only a handful of individuals in the entire city are willing to lend a hand? Fortunately, one man from that neighborhood noticed the dog, approached her, and managed to get in touch with me.
As he approached the dog, bystanders revealed that she had been in that state for three entire days. The overwhelming mix of anger and sadness I felt was beyond words. We hurried to the vet with the dog, who lay still, likely the victim of a car accident. Despite her ordeal, she remained a wonderful soul, wagging her tail in the midst of her pain.
Following the vet’s examination, there was a glimmer of good news about this resilient girl. Thankfully, her spine was intact. However, her pelvis had fractured in two places, and her front left leg was severely injured. Currently, her front leg is non-functional, rendering her unable to use it at all. Yet, she is young, and there is hope that amputation might not be necessary. We have decided to wait and see how she progresses.
She got painkillers and antibiotics and stayed at the clinic.. The surgery to fix her pelvis will be done tomorow…. she will have a titanium plate inserted, We’ll wait for the leg cause the vet says that she might get sensation in it, and that we shouldn’t amputate immediately! She is so full of life! Her name is Betty! Day 2: Our Betty’s surgery was a success, like I knew it was going to be, and she’s feeling great! As soon as she woke up she started wagging her tail… That says a lot about her!
A huge thanks to the vet and his staff for taking such good care of her.. She is our little fighter… She will soon forget all that she had to survive in my cruel city.. She wants to get up and play immediately but sadly she can’t… She will have to be very careful and rest a lot cause she had a difficult surgery…
Amidst the challenges, Betty exudes happiness, sensing the love and care surrounding her since her rescue. On the fourth day, our beloved Betty left the clinic for a paid foster home, where she would receive the necessary care following her pelvic surgery. Her foster mom faced the task of assisting her until she could stand on her own, supporting her during potty breaks multiple times a day.
Following the vet’s advice to limit her movement, Betty embarked on a long road to recovery. Despite the obstacles, her strength and zest for life shone through. With abundant attention and love, she persevered. By the sixth day, during our visit, Betty was in high spirits. She had a comfortable bed, plenty of treats, and an overall content demeanor. She remained confined to her pen, needing to stay still for a while. Next week, we would have a follow-up vet appointment. Sadly, her front leg still trailed behind, but I had bought her some vitamins for her tendons and ligaments, hopeful that they might make a difference. We remained optimistic about her progress.
Our collective prayers are focused on Betty, hoping for the day when she can use her leg freely. Despite the pain she endures, her spirit remains unbroken, radiating happiness and showering kisses on everyone around her. My affection for her deepens with each passing day; she truly is my sweet girl.
On the seventh day, there was a noticeable improvement. Betty found immense joy in her dog treats, a stark contrast to the previous week. It was heartwarming to witness her happiness.
By the twelfth day, our beloved Betty achieved a significant milestone—she began running and playing again. This indicated the success of her leg surgery. However, the joy was tinged with sorrow, as the vet’s examination revealed that Betty’s front left leg needed to be amputated. There were no other options; her leg was completely detached from her shoulder. Despite the upcoming challenge, Betty’s resilience continued to inspire us all.
It was heartbreaking to witness how Betty’s front leg lost all functionality, evident in the way she struggled to run and play, dragging it behind her. The harsh reality was that the leg couldn’t be saved, and amputation was the only viable option. Continuing to drag it could lead to further wounds over time. Today, she underwent the amputation surgery, and our hearts were heavy with worry and hope. We fervently prayed for her during this challenging time.
On the thirteenth day, Betty showcased her fighting spirit as she made it through the lengthy surgery. The moment she woke up and heard my voice, she wagged her tail, demonstrating her resilience. Seeing her in this state brought tears to my eyes, but it was the only path forward. Her leg had lost all function, and this procedure was her best chance at a pain-free life.
Although her story began with sadness, Betty’s days on the street were now behind her. A life she truly deserved awaited her, promising happiness and freedom. My affection for her had deepened, and I was grateful for the support of everyone who stood by us during this difficult journey. Betty’s recovery journey had begun, and soon, I envisioned her happily running around, embodying the strength that had carried her through this ordeal.
Day 17: Despite the tragedy that befell Betty, her boundless happiness remains undiminished. It’s a testament to the immense strength animals possess, far surpassing that of humans. With a rod inserted in her back leg and the absence of her front left leg, she defies all odds, showcasing her resilience by running freely. The lessons we can learn from animals are profound and urgent, emphasizing the need to cease any harm inflicted upon them. My love for Betty knows no bounds; she is truly remarkable.
Day 30: Our beloved tripod, Betty, is doing remarkably well! She is a sweetheart, a beautiful girl, and my affection for her only grows stronger with each passing day. I cherish her deeply.
Day 45: Betty continues to make progress, gaining weight and moving toward a full recovery, transforming into a stunning young lady. I eagerly anticipate the day when she finds her forever home, joining a new, happy family.
Day 65: Following her neutering procedure, Betty is thriving. She exhibits immense bravery, still tender but brimming with love in her eyes. Today, she stands strong, a testament to the care and devotion she has received, especially from my dear friend Louise and her group. Betty’s journey is a testament to the power of compassion and love, highlighting the incredible transformations that are possible when we extend our hearts to animals in need.
I’m thrilled to share that Betty, now named Grace, has found her forever home in the UK, where she receives all the love and care she could ever need. She is cherished deeply and is incredibly happy, living a life that every dog deserves. Her journey from struggle to happiness is a testament to the power of love and compassion.
