Amidst the many distressing events that unfold worldwide, there are always heartwarming tales of positivity. This is the inspiring account of how oil platform workers rescued a stranded dog, discovering him in the vast sea, more than 130 miles from the shores of Thailand.
Not long ago, laborers aboard an offshore oil rig were taken aback when they spotted a forlorn dog paddling near their drilling station. Vitisak Payalaw, one of the workers, promptly grabbed his camera to document this unusual sight. As they pondered ways to save the dog, they eventually resolved to secure a rope around him and carefully haul him to safety.
Vitisak Payalaw recounted, “If the waves had been stronger, we might not have spotted him. Ultimately, we decided to secure a rope around his neck and pull him towards our site. We had to race against time as the wind and waves could have carried him away.”
This dog, against all odds, received a second chance at life. According to Payalaw, when they found the dog clinging to a pole, he was utterly drained. Stranded 130 miles from the shore, his survival seemed almost impossible, yet he defied the odds.
Speculations suggest that the dog might have either fallen from a fishing trawler or leaped from a vessel where he endured mistreatment. During his two-day stay on the drilling platform, the crew provided him with sustenance and hydration. He even received a new name, “Boonrod,” which in Thai translates to “making a spiritual donation for good luck in the future.”
Upon returning to land, Boonrod received veterinary care in Songkhla, southern Thailand, to ensure his well-being. Remarkably, despite his oceanic ordeal, he was found to be in surprisingly good health. One of the oil rig workers expressed his desire to adopt Boonrod if no one else comes forward to claim him. “I hope to adopt him as a pet,” Vitisak shared. “I am looking forward to many happy years together with him.”
