Pit bulls have been burdened with an unjust reputation for being aggressive and vicious, leading many communities to contemplate breed-specific bans. Nevertheless, these dogs are not inherently aggressive, contrary to some widespread beliefs. Those who have had the privilege of sharing their lives with pit bulls understand that they make exceptional and loyal family companions.
Allow me to introduce you to Hades, a gentle pit bull residing in Mexico under the loving care of his owner, Juan José P. Flores. Those unacquainted with Hades often jump to conclusions, assuming he’s a menacing and fearsome creature. However, Hades consistently proves these misconceptions wrong by displaying his sweetness and gentleness.
Recently, Flores noticed a stray cat frequently roaming his neighborhood. Despite being unable to get close to her, he made it a point to leave food out for her regularly, ensuring she remained well-fed and warm. Touched by this act of kindness, Hades decided to extend his help to the homeless feline.
One fateful day, while Flores was at home, he heard persistent knocking at the back door, which led to Hades’ favored hangout spot. Upon opening the door, he was greeted by the sight of his eager pup, making a lot of noise and appearing anxious to convey something important.
Curiosity piqued, Flores ventured outside to investigate, and what he discovered was heartwarming. Hades joyfully indicated that he had invited the stray cat to take refuge in his doghouse. “I was very surprised,” Flores recounted. It turned out that the cat was pregnant and desperately needed a safe place to give birth.
In an incredibly touching gesture, Hades stayed close to the cat as she began the labor process. “He dragged a blanket over to the entrance of his house and settled outside the door,” Flores shared. “She felt protected by him.”
Thanks to Hades’ unwavering support, the pregnant cat successfully gave birth to two beautiful kittens. The mother cat couldn’t have been happier, welcoming her newborns into the world. And, undoubtedly, Hades was overjoyed to meet the new additions to the family. “I think he felt that he was a father,” Flores suggested.
To ensure the safety and well-being of this newfound feline family, Flores carefully relocated them to the main house, where he and Hades could keep a watchful eye over them. A deep and heartwarming friendship blossomed between Hades and the mother cat, whom they named Nicol. When Nicol wasn’t tending to her kittens, they spent a significant amount of time together.
Juan shared his plans to find loving homes for the kittens when the time was right. Additionally, he expressed his hope that Hades’ remarkable and compassionate actions would challenge prevailing prejudices against his breed and inspire kindness toward pit bulls.
“Pit bulls are good dogs,” Flores affirmed. “Hades put everything aside to help someone else. We should do the same without expecting anything in return.”
