Our morning began with a rescue mission, but little did Nixie know that it would alter her life forever. The poor pup was terrified, fleeing and crouching beneath a trailer. We suspected she had been abandoned and mistreated. However, we swiftly gathered her, and she readily surrendered.
While transporting Nixie to safety, we stumbled upon Jess, a three-month-old puppy who might be Nixie’s sister. She was hiding not too far away, nursing an injury to one of her eyes. We promptly took them to the vet, and fortunately, Jess tested negative, as did Nixie. But Jess could barely open her eye due to the discharge.
During the rescue, Nixie relished the warmth of the shower, and all the grime and fleas she carried were washed away. Weighing a mere six kilograms – bones beneath all the fur – Nixie was a clever girl and swiftly learned to do her business outdoors. We weren’t certain what had transpired in her past or why she had been abandoned, but she was quickly adopted by Lucie Demetre.
On her journey to her new home, Nixie began to gain weight and was exceedingly content. However, Jess’s health was deteriorating, and she required medical attention. We discovered that she limped on her right hind leg, and X-rays revealed a hip dislocation. Her treatment was costly, but Laura, who had been fostering her, decided to keep her.
Despite her injury, Jess is the sweetest, most easygoing girl, and Laura took her to an eye specialist. She settled in comfortably at Laura’s home, and her new family showered her with the love and care she deserved.
The tale of Nixie and Jess serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of animal rescue and adoption. Both of them had a challenging start in life, but with the assistance of devoted animal enthusiasts, they found caring homes.
