In an extraordinary story of survival and resilience, a brown-haired dog, later named Boonrod, was found stranded at sea by oil rig workers on April 13. The heartwarming tale unfolds when employees on an offshore rig in the Gulf of Thailand noticed the weary canine swimming towards them, responding to their signals at noon.
The exact journey that led Boonrod to the rig remained a mystery. Some reports suggested that he might have fallen overboard from a fishing boat, resulting in his incredible 220-kilometer drift from the shore. Despite the uncertainties surrounding his past, the workers on the rig were resolute in their determination to rescue him.
Once they managed to bring Boonrod onto the rig, the workers, deeply moved by his extraordinary survival, decided to name him Boonrod, which translates to “survivor” in Thai. The dog was desperately in need of nourishment and clean water, having endured his ordeal in the vast sea.
The compassionate workers dedicatedly nursed Boonrod back to health. Acknowledging the challenges of their remote location, they reached out for help from an oil tanker passing through the rig area.
