However, regrettably, some parents choose to terminate pregnancies or abandon their newborns shortly after birth. In the village of Saristal in Lori, India, this month, a heartrending incident unfolded as local residents stumbled upon a newborn baby, just a few days old, nestled in a nest of puppies.
This infant, who has since been named Akanksha, was discovered unclothed, with her umbilical cord still attached, and she was surrounded by the puppies. Among those present was Munnalal Patel, who was on his way to run errands when he heard the baby’s cries.
“At 11 in the morning, we saw a newborn baby girl crying and lying beside puppies in our village. We were in a state of panic and immediately notified the health department, who took the newborn to the hospital for a thorough examination,” he recounted.
The locals marveled at how the baby had managed to survive the frigid temperatures of the previous night. It was believed that the puppies huddled around her, providing warmth that kept her alive. There was also speculation that a mother dog may have initially found Akanksha and brought her to her own puppies.
“It’s likely the warmth from the puppies and their mother that kept this newborn alive. Typically, temperatures drop at night, and it’s already December. I must say, it’s a stroke of luck,” commented an anonymous local.
While stray dogs are often associated with aggression, it was fortunate that they posed no threat to the baby. Remarkably, doctors found that the baby was completely unharmed. She is now under the care of the Child Line Project, while the police have launched an investigation to locate her parents.
Child abandonment is both illegal and morally reprehensible. As parents, it is our duty to care for our children and provide them with the love and support they deserve.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry to locate the baby’s parents and ensure her well-being. Meanwhile, the heroic actions of the puppies have not gone unnoticed, and they have received attention and care from the community.
