Jacqueline Arguello’s two white-furred dogs recently welcomed a litter of stunning black puppies, sparking curiosity about the mother dog’s fidelity. “When I witnessed the birth of the first puppy, I found it amusing that it was black,” shared Arguello, who is based in Texas, during an interview with BuzzFeed. “And then the next one was black, and the next, and the next!” she reminisced.
To the best of Arguello’s knowledge, her poodle was the only male that her female canine, Mocca, had been in contact with. However, the unexpected color of the puppies led to speculation within Arguello’s family, wondering if Mocca had secretly ventured out and mated with another dog.
Nevertheless, genetics can explain such a phenomenon. In some cases, two white dogs can produce black puppies if both carry the dominant “black” gene. A color trait from generations ago can resurface in any puppy.
Arguello’s humorous take on the situation brought some laughter. “I’m just thrilled that we have these beautiful, healthy pups, and eventually, we’ll see if they resemble their father,” she added with a chuckle.
