The stray dog Duke found a sense of security in an old armchair

Duke, the stray dog, found solace in an old armchair, his only refuge. He had no other place to go, wandering only to find scraps of food before returning to the chair day and night. It was the only safe place he knew.

The stray dog, Duke, found a sense of security in an old armchair.

Duke went unnoticed until a resident of the neighborhood took notice of him and posted his photograph on Facebook, expressing concern for Duke’s well-being. He described the dog as thin and suffering from mange, and called for assistance. This post was seen by a volunteer from Texas-based Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, who quickly contacted a fellow volunteer and arranged for Duke to be rescued.

When the volunteer arrived, Duke was scared and untrusting of people but she was able to bring him to a emergency vet clinic in Dallas where he was treated for dehydration, anemia, flea and mange infestations, cataracts and filed down teeth, a common sign of a “bait dog” used in training fighting dogs.

Duke has been recovering well in the clinic, and his confidence is also improving. His skin is clearing up and his eyes are looking better. The volunteers are optimistic that he will make a full recovery, after which he will be taken to New York City to be placed for adoption.
