Perry, the endearing lurcher, recently celebrated his fourth birthday with a heartwarming gathering in the garden of the rescue center.
His journey has been notably unique, as he has been under the care of Battersea’s Old Windsor center for more than 18 months, which is nearly 600 days—over 15 times longer than the average stay for dogs at the center, typically just 35 days.
To make his birthday memorable and to uplift his spirits, the devoted staff at the center organized a fantastic event filled with presents, toys, and colorful balloons. However, Perry’s one birthday wish is to find a forever home of his own.
Staff members believe that Perry’s prolonged stay is due to his tendency to become overly excited around people. Nonetheless, he has made significant progress since being in a foster home and has proven to be an affectionate and playful companion. Perry loves spending quality time with his favorite people and relishes gentle attention and ear scratches.
Despite the extended wait, Perry remains cheerful, brightening everyone’s day with his playful antics and sweet disposition. Rosie Beauvais, Battersea Rehoming and Welfare Assistant, and Perry’s foster caregiver, shared, “Perry is an absolute delight to be around, and he never fails to bring a smile to my face with his playful personality. He’s such an exuberant boy who enjoys playing games with his ever-growing collection of toys. After tiring himself out with a day of fun and games, he happily finds his way to his favorite cozy spot for a nap.”
Perry also has a fondness for the outdoors and relishes spending most of his time in the garden, where he races around at full speed during his daily playtime. Rosie added, “He has such a unique personality and would make a wonderful addition to the right family.”
Despite lurchers typically favoring a more laid-back lifestyle, Perry is an active dog who enjoys stretching his legs. He dreams of finding a family with an active lifestyle and experience with sighthounds who can help him expend his energy with exciting walks and playtime.
