Last Friday began just like any other day for plumber Carlos Carrillo and his coworker. However, their day took an unexpected turn when they were called upon to rescue a dog that some heartless individual had abandoned to a dire fate.
As they were en route to a job in Robstown, Texas, the two employees of Shoreline Plumbing spotted a peculiar sight in a ditch along the country road they were traveling. Initially unsure of what they had come across, they decided to stop and take a closer look.
“At first, we weren’t certain it was a dog,” Carrillo shared with The Dodo. “We backed up and realized it was.”
Upon closer examination, it became evident that the dog was in desperate need of assistance. He had been bound with tubing, and his mouth had been tightly sealed with duct tape.
Whoever had left the dog in such a cruel state had clearly intended for him to perish in solitude. However, Carrillo and his colleague were not about to allow that to happen. They came to the rescue and liberated the dog from his torment.
“He appeared to be in reasonable condition,” Carrillo stated. “He was very affectionate and enjoyed the attention. He had probably been there for a day or so.”
Subsequently, the two plumbers loaded the dog into their vehicle and headed to Peewee’s Pet Adoption, a nearby no-kill shelter. Despite the hardships he had endured, the dog displayed immense gratitude toward those who had stopped to help him.
“Just look at that face,” Carrillo remarked. “He knows he’s been saved!”
Thankfully, a medical examination revealed that the dog was generally in good health despite his ordeal, except for being afflicted with heartworms, which would necessitate ongoing treatment. Above all, he exuded happiness at being alive.
“His tail just won’t stop wagging,” a spokesperson at the shelter told The Dodo. “He’s such a sweetheart.”
Regrettably, the individual responsible for leaving the dog to die may never be identified or face justice. Nevertheless, thanks to his rescuers, the mistreated pup’s life was not cut short, as that person had intended. Today, he awaits the opportunity to find his forever home.
